deCarta-based Mobile Applications Win Top Awards, including Grand Prize, for the 2009 NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge-Americas

San Jose, Calif - May 4, 2009 - deCarta, the leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, today announced that the company's geospatial platform technology provided the geospatial functionality for three of the four mobile applications receiving top awards, including the Grand Prize Winner, for the 2009 NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge-Americas.

The annual NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge® invites developers to build innovative location-enabled applications that work with mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ map data. deCarta's geospatial software platform and web services gives mobile LBS application developers the ability to quickly build applications that integrate a wide variety of data sources to provide complex mapping, routing and spatial search functions.

The Grand Prize-winning application, powered by deCarta, was Taxi4me from T+1 Solutions. Taxi4me is a mobile location-based taxi ordering service application that allows users anywhere in the world to connect with trusted taxi companies. The desired time and destination is sent from a user's mobile phone to a taxi brokering server. Local taxi companies then submit competitive bids and proposed routes back to the consumer.

The second runner-up, Creativity Software's Rough Guides Mobile Travel Guide, and third runner-up Colombia Games' To Get There were also powered by deCarta.

“All of the applications in this year's competition displayed exceptional innovation and creativity,” said J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. “Accordingly, we're very proud to continue our four year track record of providing the enabling geospatial technology for the most successful mobile LBS applications.”

deCarta is a Global Sponsor of the Navteq LBS Challenge and supports the program and developers in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. The initiative is part of deCarta's commitment to the LBS developer community and is one of the reasons deCarta has become recognized as the leading independent geospatial platform in the industry today.

In North America, location-based services have grown to account for 58 percent of the total downloaded application revenue according to recent market data from Nielsen Mobile, a division of The Nielsen Company. In this dynamic market, deCarta has built a leading position with 90 percent of mobile LBS revenue at these carriers running on the company's technology. deCarta's customers have location based applications running on Verizon, AT&T Wireless, Sprint, ALLTEL, Bell Mobility, Telus, and over 12 mobile operators in Europe.
