deCarta Extends Connected Navigation to Popular Mobile Platforms
Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, NV - January 8, 2009 - deCarta, the leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, today announced that its real-time, two-way connected navigation (CNAV) service is now available for mobile devices and smartphones based on Windows Mobile and Linux operating systems. deCarta's Connected Navigation Service was launched on WinCE Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs) in October. The new offering extends this advanced search and navigation functionality to a broader range of devices, enabling handset manufacturers and consumer electronics manufacturers to launch branded Connected Navigation Products on all the major operating systems.
Real-time, two-way CNAV devices combine the responsive user experience of a GPS navigation unit with a wide range of dynamic content and services that can be provided from a network server. The result is a truly "smart" navigation device that brings more usable and relevant information to the user; two components required to make GPS navigation an "everyday" convenience for drivers. Most PND's use either WinCE or Linux operating systems; deCarta can now support either choice. The addition of a Windows Mobile version allows manufacturers of smartphones to add this new capability as well.
CNAV on Windows Mobile smartphones offers new revenue opportunities for handset manufacturers and wireless operators seeking to build service-based revenue streams. The powerful capabilities of the handset, combining GPS location technologies, high data bandwidth and large screens make them an excellent platform for connected navigation. deCarta's connected navigation service leverages the inherent connectivity of the device to add services such as real time traffic, local search using major internet search engines, gas prices and other forms of relevant content.
deCarta's CNAV service provides the core technology to allow customers to quickly bring new products to market. The complete service includes customizable navigation software for the mobile device (PND or other Mobile Internet Device), hosted servers which manage delivery of traffic solutions and other relevant content and the wireless connectivity to connect these two. The service enables customers to build new revenue opportunities by quickly bringing to market a premium connected navigation device with superior, consumer-relevant location-aware capabilities including;
deCarta's CNAV service provides all the necessary components to deliver a full-featured, customizable connected navigation application. The deCarta services include: application development, content provider management and delivery technology, carrier-grade hosting facilities, MVNO wireless services, device-side modem interface software, wireless gateway technology and new, patented navigation service technologies. Internet search is enabled through deCarta's proxy server.
"Connected navigation provides a new opportunity for mobile handset manufacturers, consumer electronics brands and wireless carriers wishing to expand data service offerings," said J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. "Two-way connectivity brings a better user experience that far eclipses the current static navigation model."
deCarta's connected navigation client for Linux and Windows Mobile will be shown at the Consumer Electronics show (January 8-11) in Las Vegas, NV. Demonstrations can be arranged by sending a message to sales@decarta.com.
