NAVTEQ Welcomes deCarta as a Global Sponsor of the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge®

Registration Now Open for EMEA and The Americas Regions

San Francisco, CA (CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2008, NAVTEQ Booth #323) - September 10, 2008 – NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, announced today deCarta, a leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, will be a Global Sponsor of the sixth annual NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge. This marks the fifth consecutive year deCarta has sponsored the Global LBS Challenge but this is the first time deCarta will be a Global Sponsor which includes all three regions of the Global LBS Challenge: Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA), The Americas, and Asia-Pacific (APAC).

The Global LBS Challenge invites developers around the world to build innovative LBS applications that work with mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ® map data. Participants have the chance to compete for a global prize pool of cash and data licenses as well as gain priceless exposure for their application. Since launching in 2003, approximately 25% of the semifinalist companies have gone on to receive venture capital funding or launch commercially-distributed applications, many on major wireless carriers.

The global prize pool for this year's NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge is the largest to date, valued at over $5.25 million USD. The winning developers in each region will share a generous pool that includes cash, map and tool licenses, and devices.

deCarta will be providing all Global LBS Challenge participants with access to their Drill Down Server® geospatial software platform and web services that gives LBS developers the ability to quickly build applications that integrate a wide variety of map and data sources to provide complex mapping, routing and spatial search functions. Additionally, the company will make available the beta release of their recently announced deCarta Mobile™ platform. deCarta Mobile is a client/server architecture with an easy-to-use J2ME client application programming interface (API) that provides a framework for rapid development of mobile mapping applications. The platform provides mobile application developers with the ability to easily implement smooth-panning maps, panning, zooming, routing, geocoding, reverse geocoding and pin overlays into their applications. deCarta Mobile Client™ is a comprehensive API that supports the functionality needed for most location-enabled applications used for mobile search, routing and mobile tracking. The API is available for J2ME environments with an iPhone® implementation to follow shortly.

To help the winners and runners-up in all three regions of the competition significantly reduce their first-year overhead costs of commercial deployment, deCarta will also be awarding complimentary one-year licensing of its Drill Down Server geospatial software platform or Hosted Web Services.

"The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge provides an excellent forum for talented application developers to showcase their cutting-edge market-ready mobile solutions," commented J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. "We are pleased to once again play an integral part of a program that has helped so many companies launch their commercial solutions, and to provide enabling geospatial tools and technologies to the developer community to enhance and streamline the delivery of their location-enabled applications."

"We are thrilled that deCarta has increased their commitment to the LBS Challenge, becoming a Global Sponsor for 2009, and continues to demonstrate their leadership in enabling developers to push the limits of their creativity." commented Marc Naddell, Vice President, Partner and Developer Programs, NAVTEQ. "The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge, now in its sixth year, continues to gain momentum as the premier program for bringing together the key LBS players in the wireless industry"
